LogiMAT 2024 in Stuttgart

Fast Track to a Career in Logistics

Munich, January 18, 2024—LogiMAT 2024 has enhanced its accompanying program with LogiMAT Campus, a special new matchmaking and recruiting event for entry-level professionals and employers. The program offers those considering a career in logistics a free opportunity to explore diverse job opportunities in the industry while helping companies recruit qualified specialists.

Despite a labor force of record size, an economic slowdown, and a pool of over 2.6 million unemployed, the shortage of both labor in general and skilled workers in particular in Germany has reached unprecedented levels. Finding (qualified) specialists has become one of the biggest challenges for employers, including in the logistics industry. The number of unfilled positions has climbed to 13,638 in the IT sector alone, with another 100,000 or so workers needed in transportation and logistics, including transport equipment drivers, plus 50,000 in energy and electrical engineering, 48,000 in mechanical engineering and vehicle technology, and 44,000 in metalworking.

This situation prompted the management of LogiMAT to introduce the new matchmaking and recruiting program LogiMAT Campus to this year’s accompanying program. The career and networking event will take place on March 21 in the ICS Center next to Hall 2 (C1.2). LogiMAT Campus works like a job exchange, where trade school and university students, people transitioning from other sectors, and anyone else interested in a career in logistics are matched with companies offering attractive logistics-related positions. Potential employers include prestigious equipment makers, systems integrators, software companies, logistics service providers, and industrial truck manufacturers. Subject-matter specialists and human resources representatives will be on hand at dedicated information booths to interact directly with entry-level job candidates. The focus will be on jobs and career planning and on the current positions and training opportunities on offer. After an initial contact at LogiMAT Campus, candidates can get more information and learn more about industry and career opportunities by visiting a company’s exhibit hall booth. A free entry pass to LogiMAT is available to anyone with a student ID who is taking part in LogiMAT Campus.

In addition to direct contact with companies, LogiMAT Campus also offers an educational program of campus sessions for those exploring a career in logistics in which industry insiders offer helpful tips and talk about their own career experience and how they got started in the field. Immediately following the official opening of LogiMAT Campus by Exhibition Director Michael Ruchty, the first campus session is a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Robert Schulz, Professor and Director of the Institute of Mechanical Handling and Logistics (IFT) at the University of Stuttgart, in which industry players from startups to large enterprises plus industry researchers will come together to talk about the diversity of the logistics profession and what it takes to succeed. Career coach Ute Schütz will be available in the afternoon to offer new candidates tips for successful job applications and navigating the logistics industry.

“Many people still have a misperception of what logistics is due to a lack of knowledge,” concludes Exhibition Director Michael Ruchty from EUROEXPO Messe- und Kongress-GmbH. “Logistics actually offers an incredibly diverse, exciting career environment unmatched in almost any other profession, with challenging jobs ranging from software development to mechanical and systems engineering, project management, and process management. LogiMAT Campus introduces a new educational component to the accompanying program of LogiMAT 2024, opening doors for those considering the logistics industry with opportunities to establish a network and explore the many different career paths. The career and networking event gives new professionals the opportunity to get to know the industry while helping companies find skilled workers—a win-win for everyone.“
